Spotlight on the Oklahoma State University QuarkNet Center
Oklahoma's two QuarkNet centers—University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University—take turns hosting summer teacher workshops each year. Summer 2018 was Oklahoma State's turn, so QuarkNet teachers from across the state met on the OSU campus located in Stillwater. Mentor Joe Haley and Cosmic Fellow Nate Unterman organized the workshop that largely focused on cosmic ray detectors and data. Teachers were also able to try out some activities from the Data Activities Portfolio (including Shuffling the Particle Deck, pictured below), and tour some of the lab facilities on campus. Each spring, OSU hosts an ATLAS Masterclass; 2018 was no exception, as 17 students from area high schools converged on campus for a masterclass to learn about particle physics, analyze ATLAS data and report results.
News from QuarkNet Central
Teachers, you may now submit your proposal for the 2019 Beamline for Schools (BL4S) competition at CERN. Note that the deadline for submitting this year's proposal is March 31.
Mentors, if you have not yet filled out the 2019 RFP form, please do so ASAP by going to the text of this e-mail. If you have questions or need assistance, please contact Ken or Shane.
Is your group registered for International Masterclasses? Orientations and updates have begun, so sign up for that masterclass and orientations/updates as soon as you can. Contact Ken and he can help you through the process. Also, you can check the latest IMC circular.

To mark the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, several female scientists at CERN share their stories on the impact their work has on technology and society. If you enjoyed The Worlds Within, the short remastered video featured in the last FF, then check out Fabrication of the Accelerator Structure, a 41-minute remastered video from 1964 detailing the construction of the original two-mile-long linear accelerator at SLAC.
