Hawaii QuarkNet Annual Report 2019-2020
Summary of Hawaii Cosmic Ray Day workshop on 28 Sept. 2019 by Michael Jones. The workshop Saturday went well except for a delay at the start due to heavy traffic on the freeway. There were 21 high school students from 4 high schools: 10 from McKinley 8 from Kamaile Acad. plus teacher 2 from Leilehua plus teacher 1 from Kaiser plus teacher Three other QuarkNet high school teachers helped. Also helping were several grad students and postdocs from Prof. Bindi's group. The agenda is at https://www.phys.hawaii.edu/ams02/outreachnsf/index.html There was also a larger group of middle school students and teachers who did similar activities but did not analyze e-Lab data. I was with the high school group. We had planned to have a CMS Masterclass and a teacher workshop in March 2020 but had to cancel because of the pandemic. Finally, a noteworthy event involved data collection during Hurricane Douglas which passed north of Oahu about 0500 UTC on 27 July. A flux plot for BYUH, Punahou, and Windward CC CRDs combined hijul26to31bin2hr shows a possible 1% increase during 0000-0600 UTC on 27 July corresponding to a pressure decrease from 1026 to 1024 mb.
