There is still excitement over the discovery of gravitiational waves by LIGO, announced on February 11, 2016. This page has some resources for QuarkNet teachers and others.
From the Friday Flyer of February 12, 2016:
- QuarkNet LIGO e-Lab measures seismic activity on Earth that is the background to and gravitiational wave signal.
- BBC article has good. clear explanations and videos.
- Interaction.org announcement has link to the PRL article on the discovery.
- The chirp is an audio rendering of the signal on YouTube; also shows the signal plots.
- Video by Brian Greene gives a concise, clear explanation.
- Video of the press conference announcing the discovery - may of us watched it on live Feb 11!
